On Thursday, some friends and I went to hear Jerron "Blind Boy" Paxton with
Eli and the Chocolate Factory in Tel-Aviv. The place - Levontin 7 (this is
the address of the club) - is rather small, but was quite full. SRO, but
largely due to shortage of chairs! some swing dancers who follow the band
came in and danced in the back. As usual, I was the oldest in the crowd.
whom we have heard before, is a good singer and an excellent pianist. The
supporting cast was good and swinging (last time he also played with that
band). A good thing to have a piano - usually, the group is pianoless.
The octogenarian Merton Cahm, this time on tenor sax only, joined the fun
for "Honeysuckle Rose," and pushed some pepper up the .... - oh, never
mind, our moderator would not let this through - of the younger guys. If
the show was good before, from then on to the end it was even better.
A really lovely evening!
