Like Mike Vax, I am neither a fan of the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra nor of
Mayfield's "Library" problems. BUT, I do admire Irvin Mayfield's music
marketing skills. The Orchestra has won a Grammy, sold out Carnegie Hall,
performed at Jazz Festivals such as Newport, French Quarter, New Orleans
Jazz & Heritage, Clifford Brown (Wilmington DE) etc. And Mayfield was
nominated by GW Bush and Appointed by Barack Obama to serve on theNational
Endowment of the Arts board. The Orchestra itself gets generally positive
reviews such as:

"...above all, these guys are about playing New Orleans Jazz with blistering
Creole fire, a kind of unrestrained fun and virtuosity..." OMAHA
WORLD-HERALD

"...a free-playing jam, it's like a savory dish of musical gumbo...swinging
sound of horns, piano, bass and drums, along with the cool-cat
musicality..." DESERET NEWS, SALT LAKE CITY, UT

"...the orchestra is the only major performing Jazz institution in
post-Katrina New Orleans and has become the most prominent representative of
Jazz culture in the Big Easy..." METROMODE, DETROIT, MI

I also admire his backing and April 2015 opening of "The Peoples Health New
Orleans Jazz Market" a new venue created for jazz in the city that created
jazz. I guess some folks dig both him, the Orchestra and his jazz vision.
The new venue is a 13,000 square foot space that includes smaller rooms such
as the Bolden Bar.

Cheers,

Steve Barbone
