[Dixielandjazz] Death of Gene Mayl

Hello All

I just received word of the passing of Gene Mayl. I don't think there was
any stronger supporter of Dixieland jazz than Gene. It will be fifty years
next month when I first met and played with Gene when I joined the Salt
City Six in Cocoa Beach,Florida. I played trombone with him on a pretty
steady basis from the 1980's through the early 2000's. Anyone who ever
worked with Gene would tell you that there was virtually no place he
wouldn't travel to or any gig he wouldn't take. I flew to Lisbon,Portugal
for a two hour concert back in the '90.s where we left out of JFK on a
Thursday night and were back home Sunday. Just one of many crazy gigs with
him! What a great guy!
