I agree with this, I think that we should not look for great “trombonistic”
performances by Turk, there are many other trombonists who surpass him from
this point of view. But it is the sound of the band, the balance of the
voices, the mix of strength and sweetness, the right tempo, the
construction of the pieces and mainly the fervour of the musicians that
make me love this band. Turk, as Kid Ory, is not a virtuoso but he knew how
to place the good note at the right time, holding it the time required, no
need to make two notes if one is enough. That's why I love Turk and his
band, mainly during the 70’s.
