[Dixielandjazz] FW: Query: does your library have a jazz room? San Ramon CA library has jazz collection

Hey Bert-Thanks. I've examined the website and made inquiry through it
asking for details-how financed, are concerts free or is admission charged.
Also asked about the extent of the collection. Annual concerts have had
outstanding musicians!

What started this was when our jazz room in Pensacola was dedicated,
librarians said that they weren't aware of another library having a "jazz
room." Jazz Society and "Friends" started donations in mid-80s when LPs
were transitioning to CDs. Our hip library director wanted a good jazz
collection but didn't know how to go about it. Current collection is valued
at $18,000.

Couple of years ago when we were getting a new downtown library, we had a
donor who spoke to the committee and made a significant donation toward
getting a jazz room. Now that it's completed, our collection, previously
divided /3 books, CDs and DVDs, now is all in one area. We have a CD/DVD
listening device so patrons can sample before they check out materials.

Thanks.

Good wishes.

Hi, Norman,

The San Ramon branch of the Contra Costa Public Library in California has a
jazz collection. On their website they say:

"San Ramon is particularly proud of the jazz collection and annual jazz
concerts."

The website is http://ccclib.org/locations/sanramon.html

Regards,

Bert Thompson
