The Swiss boogie woogie pianist Silvan Zingg is playing in Israel as part
of the Hot Jazz series. Last night, despite being afflicted again by the
curse of the jazz class, I took a break and went to hear him with two
Israeli musicians (Noam Visenberg on bass and Aviv Cohen on drums) at the
Zappa club in nearby Herzlia. There were also two dancers - Flora Bouchereau,

the world champion. After my experience with the Hungarian Gypsy swing
vilinist who played lots of non-jazz, unswinging stuff, I was a little
wary, but, fortunately, for no good reason. The performance was a gas! A
welocme respite. Silvan Zingg is fantastic, both as a player and a
showman, and the Isrealis are very good, too. The dancers are
unbelievable. The only snag was that my seat was next to the drummer, who
therefore sounded too loud.
I am impatiently looking forwrd to hearing them again on Thursday night,
this time - with some friends.
Cheers!
