Bob,

I enjoyed seeing you yesterday at the party Earl Scheelar put on for Ted
Shafer.
I know Ted has produced some nice arrangements but didn't know he and
Herb were "at war".

Cheers,

Very interesting.I have a cassette recording that Herb Newell (leader of The
Feather Riverboat Jazz Band in Graeagle) gave me years ago.he said he and
his son copied the parts off of the original recording which they got off of
a cassette.he gave me the cassette.

The YouTube version is not the authentic one in my opinion.it has some cuts
in it and has a much faster tempo.the recording I have and that my band Cell
Block 7 does, has a cornet solo by either Oliver or Armstrong..and is much
different

Herb made me promise not to let Ted Shafer have it.I think they had some
sort of war going on.

Did King Oliver record two versions?
