Good grief! What perversion of history have we here? We used to fight them
in the streets. Those oddballs with their funny berets and even funnier
noises (well, something like that) Pat

I wonder how you appreciate Jon Faddis. I have loved his playing since the
days he was a Gillespie clone. Those were the mid'70's, when Miles Davis
was next to god, and there were the Hubbards and the Morgans, et al. And
here was a young kid who went back to the roots of bebop, the days it had
not yet moved that far from jazz, and 'modernists" could play and get along
with swing and Dixieland musicians.
I heard Faddis with his idol in Nice in (probably) 1977, and they sounded
great! I'm glad Faddis has developed the way he did, leaning towards more
traditional form. Anyway, I have heard his "I Can't Get Started" a few
times before forwarding it to the list, and eac time it sounded better than
before!
Cheers

Marek
Trumpet player, conductor, composer,
and educator Jon Faddis was born on
July 24, 1953 in Oakland, California.
At only 18, Faddis joined the big band of
vibraphone legend Lionel Hampton. He later
transitioned into studio work, where he
played on a variety of pop recordings.
Faddis returned to jazz as a leader in the
late ‘70s and has continued since, even
leading the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band from
1992 to 2002.
Watch Faddis’ take on the standard “I Can’t
Get Started” from a 2013 performance.
