There is a tune connected with the same axe-murderer called "The Mysterious
Axeman's Jazz." It is not great music, but if anyone wants it, I can send
it.

The story I heard was that a serial axe-murderer wrote to the newspaper in
about 1919 that he would stop killing if more New Orleans bands played jazz.
With nothing to lose, more bands played jazz and the killing stopped. The
murderer never was caught.

Just finished reading this book by Ray Celestin. Not a book about jazz but a
serial murder mystery set in New Orleans and based on a true strory.
