[Dixielandjazz] Clifford Brown's artistry

Charlie, I just got to listen to the Clifford Brown tune. Am I in love with it? Not really. But, the guys who said he tried for a note 3 times need to go back and check their pianos a bit. He threw in 3 passing chords in the space of a blink. He did that some other times during the song instead of leaving that to the piano. I like the ballad version better than the bouncy ballad, but he put some tremendous improv stuff in it and passing-chord material that I studied in music theory.

I have a lot of his material but am not sure whether or not I have this. Like some other music, I may like it the more I listen to it. Thanks.

His virtuosity is at the service of melodic invention. If the soulful, creative interpretation doesn't move you, I wish you love and a heart transplant. Comparisons to Bunny Berigan are irrelevant, except to pay tribute to the genius of both men.
