[Dixielandjazz] Finding the key by ear

Ken, according to what type of jazz it is, after listening to try and figure out major and minor, I try and follow the bass and see what chord progressions are being followed. Like you, I also try and pick out notes. If there are chords, I try and hear the different notes in those and see what progressions are being followed, be they going along with the bass or not. 

By this time, I at least have some ideas that can help me.
