Perhaps, I should have said "...gave no indication..."
In the post war era, the song was recorded by June Christy, Ethel Waters, Lee Wiley, Ernestine Anderson, Ruth Olay, Eileen Farrell Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Holiday, Dakota Statton, Pearl Bailey, Nancy Wilson, Martha Miyake, Carmen McRae, Barbara Lee Diahann, Joan Morris, Linda Peterson, Carol Sloane, Martha Lorin, Susannah McCorkle and as an instrumental.
As you would expect, 'mouldy fig' Bill only has the Lee Wiley and Ethel Waters recordings. Not even the Verve Ella.
So, I can't comment on the interpetations.
