What a collection of great responses. Thanks to all of you. I took a lot of heat one day for singing "My Little Bimbo" in a folky environment, so have become sensitized. For now, I think the lyric stands alone, but might use another chorus:
Cold, empty bed, feels
hard as lead,
Pains in my head, I
wish I was dead.
What did I do to
feel so black and blue?

No joy for me, no
company.
Even the mouse ran
from my house.
Now that we’re through, I feel so black and blue.

       I know my
mistake, now I understand.
       Now I need
a break – come on, take my hand.

Since you’ve been gone, I can’t go on.
Can’t face the dawn, days
are so long -
Now without you, I’m
just so black and blue.
