Sorry to say, in a way, yes. But it is not my cup of tea. Banjos with
magnetic pickups like an electric guitar sounds just like that, a castrated
electric guitar. I once bought and own a Gibson TG50 with a magnetic pickup
so I have tested it. If you want to amplify a banjo or guitar, six or four
string, you have to use a good stand along microphone, like a Shure 57, to
preserve the authentic acoustic sound. That is what I use when playing my
tenor guitars. My Paramount banjo, 1930, do not need any amplification with
the right plain plastic vellum installed.
