 Saturday afternoon at Jacob's Ladder (Sulam Yaakov) in Ginossar, Elaine
and I joined an impromptu jam session with Jerron 'Blind Boy' Paxton at the
piano in the lobby of the hotel. At first there were just six of us
listening to him. Within ten minutes, as his music reached the ears of the
others, at least 50 people had gathered around. Soon he was joined by a
talented guitarist. For many it was the highlight of the weekend.



Paxton is like listening to a mixture of J.P Johnson, Jelly Roll Morton,
Fats Waller, Art Tatum and all the other greats.  Stride, boogie-woogie,
swing – in 40 minutes or so he covered them all. The man is a wonderful
multi-talented and warm personality.  Since this was a Blues and Folk
Festival, his official stage performances were on guitar and banjo without
the piano. So the majority of the hundreds people at the festival didn't
get to experience the jazz side of his talent.



I guarantee that this house party Eli has put together will be an afternoon
to remember.
