Two articles on Israeli jazz, one from "JazzTimes," a magazine rarely
dealing with OKOM, and the other - from "All About Jazz," which also rarely
deals with jazz as I understand it.
Interesting read, even if Mr. Krane hsan't got it all right: His "Ever
since, Israelis in the south of their country have been victims of rocket
fire" seems to refer either to the November 2012 campaign, which was not
Pillar of Defence but rather "Pillar of Coud" and which, in fact, has
brought relative peace and quiet to the area (there were just a few
sporadic missiles and mortar fire), or to the 1967 war, whereafter again
the area was quiet for many years, until after the Israeli withdrawal from
the Gaza Strip.
Nevertheless, it really is interesting to read.
I have already mentioned Shai Brenner's tribute to Fritz Weiss at the
Felicja Blumental (spelled that way because Ms. Blumental kept the Polish
spelling to the end of her life) Music Center . Scott Krane gives Shai
Brenner's words on the matter, together with a video from the concert.
Cheers
