Kenny Ball guested a couple of times with the Big Bear Stompers. In 
those days one of the regular trumpet players was Ben Cummings. 
Recently, Ben has done most of the trumpet work in KBs band and he also 
played in Humphrey Lyttelton's band on several occasions. He still deps 
(subs) with the "Bears".

Once, many years ago, I went to hear Kenny Ball in our local town. The 
Hall manager said he was going to ask for me to sing a song... I said it 
wasn't appropriate. Manager ignored my protests and suddenly I heard 
over the mic "The Big Bear Stompers singer is here tonight" would she 
like to sing a number?" That may be normal in the US but not in the UK. 
I sang Trouble in Mind as I recall and Kenny was charming.

The last time we saw him was at a small club, he was in the middle of 
treatment for his chest problems and the hospital let him put for the 
evening to honour the gig booking.
