I saw the Preservation Hall Jazz Band in the early 80s. As with the IA concert, the musicianship wasn’t all that good. But, since most of the band members had been around during the 1920s there was a certain authentic feeling in their music. Their lack of musicianship was also somewhat understandable because of their advanced ages.

But, that is not the case with the current band – Or at least the band I saw on the Youtube clip.

You would think that out of the vast pool of good musicians in and around New Orleans, or the ones who have been associated with the town and the style, that they could come up with at least professional quality musicians to tour with the band.

Perhaps they don’t have the money to attract better quality musicians. Or maybe they feel that having good musicians in the band doesn’t matter?

I suspect that with the name Preservation Hall, the audience goes to the concert with a pre-conceived idea that they will see a quality performance from quality musicians. Unfortunately they don’t, but most of the audience don’t know the difference.

At the Irish wedding reception the D.J. yelled...
"Would all married men please stand next to the one person who has made your life worth living."
The bartender was almost crushed to death.
