An interview by Aidin Vaziri in the San Francisco Chronical today (7/7/13)

with Molly Ringwald had this as the first question:

Q: Your father was a jazz musician. What are the earliest songs you

remember hearing around the house?

A: I listened to a lot of Bessie Smith when I was younger. My dad mainly

listened to traditional jazz music. I didn't discover the Great American

Songbook until much later, when I was older and started listening to Ella

Fitzgerald.

I sent a note to Aldin already (

avaziri at sfchronicle.com

) and will let you know if he responds...

Yeah Dave, About half the interviews or articles that are written about Molly that mention me use the word was instead of is. On live radio and TV interviews I many times have heard her correct the interviewer and say “is.”

-BTW, Molly just appeared at the Montreal Jazz Festival last night and is now on her way to some gigs in Toronto.

She will be appearing at the St. Frances Hotel on July 11, 12 & 13 with two shows on Saturday the 13th.

BTW- A recently unsbuscribed member of DJML told me that he has many DJML members as friends on his Facebook page and that some of them say that DJML is turning into a Molly Ringwald List.

I told him that I only list a few things about Molly on DJML compared to the hundreds of newspaper, radio and TV interviews that I get via Google Alert. And that I only do this because many members of DJML saw her sing OKOM with my band when she was 3 years old and have followed her carreer with interest, seeing her sing with my band and now with her own band.

I am not writing this to get sympathy or to gain support from DJML members, so please no support messages. I am just letting you know that I know what is being said behind my back and I really don’t care. My conscience is clear . . . . At least on that point. (Wink)

Some folks just have to have something to gripe or complain about. It seems that they think the glass is half empty instead of half full.

You would think that they would be happy that there is a 45 year old actress in the public’s eye talking about her love of Jazz. Who else is talking about Bessie Smith, Bix, Bechet and Louis Armstrong in interviews these days?

-Bob Ringwald
