Jimmy Dorsey, of Shenandoah, Pennsylvania, was written up in Bandsman
Magazine in 1921 or 1922 as an 18 year-old cornet prodigy. He was praised
for dazzling technique and brilliant tone. The article also mentioned his
younger brother, Thomas, as a fledgling and talented trombonist, and his
sisters a wonderful vocalists. The article also mentioned that the boys were
taught by their father, who was also a cornetist.
