Chris Albertson's website contains an audiotaped account by the man who found Bessie Smith and her companion right after they had their car accident. (The man happened to be a physician whose last name was Smith.)

Incidentally, this interview is not new to the net. It has been available at Mr. Albertson's site for a long time; 



I just heard about this so haven’t yet listened to it myself. 



I am told that the length is 43 minutes and that For those of us curious or wishing to separate myth from reality, it's definitely worth a listen. If you want to get to the main part of the narration, skip the first 7 minutes.
