This is from Habs de Koert's newsletter "Keep It Swinging"
I am attaching links to two interesting items:
The first is an article about the Belgian swing reed player and bandleader
Jean Omer (unforunately, I did not hink about it when part 1 had been
published). The English leaves something to be desired, but the article
itself is interesting (scientists say now that brain needs exercise to work
properly and that such exercise might slow down dememtia, so deciferinig it
is worthwhile!).

Once you've read it, it is recommended to look Jean Omer up on You Tube and
hear some of the music his band played .
The secongd item refers to the Argentinian Jazz violinist Hernan Oliva. In
addtition to the article, some videos are provided, and they lead to
"related videos." I ended up listening to Oliva for about half an hour.
No banjos and tubas, but if Gypsy swing is your meat rahter than poison,
it's worth the effort:

The Belgian saxophone player Jean
Omer<http://keepitswinging.blogspot.nl/2013/07/jean-omer-1912-1994-le-boeuf-sur-le.html>scored
triumphs during the 1940s of the past century in the Brussels dance
halls like the famous Le Boeuf Sur Le Toit. Now, almost forgotten, George
Lankester snatches this neglected reed player and bandleader from oblivion.

Earlier this month there was a homage to violinist Hernán Oliva in
Argentina celebrating the Centennial of his birth. Members of the string
swing conjunto Hot Club de Boedo lead by guitarist Waldo
Fonseca<http://oscar-aleman.blogspot.nl/2013/07/homage-to-hernan-oliva-1913-1988.html>took
part in the arranged live performance.
