Here is an article that David Brent Johnson wrote for Bloom Magazine about
a year and a half ago. It is about Hoagy Carmichael and Bix Beiderbecke's time together
in Bloomington during the spring of 1924. (The period in which Bix suggested that
Hoagy begin writing songs, and Bix's group the Wolverines made the first-ever recording
of a Carmichael composition -- "Riverboat Shuffle.") The article draws on extensive
reading of Carmichael's memoirs, including the unpublished 1932 manuscript JAZZBANDERS,
as well as period Bloomington and Indiana University newspapers, and interviews with
Hoagy's son Hoagy Bix Carmichael and Carmichael biographer Richard Sudhalter:
