[Dixielandjazz] Encores are not allowed at the Geneva "Fête de la musique"

I have played some of the greatest Festivals in the World, and found that real professional ORGANIZERS figure in room for an encore for exceptional artists that tend to get one. And a Professional Act knows how to time their set to end appropriately with enough time left for an encore should they get one. Never had a problem with it. It is also much easier to manage if the Organizers do not try to cram too many acts into the time frame. More is not always better especially when it comes to bands. Some are fantastic, some are very good , some are good and some are mediocre, and some are not very good at all but get hired because they are connected politically to the Organizers. :)) And in some festivals they are the Organizers.
I always stage our shows to leave them wanting more, and with enough time left within my allotted set to give them a suitable encore.
I have also seen some bands that were really not all that good milk themselves encores and rudely go over the time limit as well.
Cheers,

Saint Gabriel's Celestial Brass Band
gets encore demands very often.

Jacques,
If there were other bands coming on after you, I would think it very
inconsiderate of you not to get off the stage at the allotted time. By
performing an encore you are cutting into the time of the bands coming
after you. If every band took an encore the programme would soon get out of
kilter.Bands which play over their time are the bane of organisers and
other performers!
