Here's a hot jazz calendar item for mid-November

Chicago's internationally known jazz pianist James Dapogny will kick off a
whirlwind tour of the national's capital area on Friday, November 16 with a
concert in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Leading an all-star lineup dubbed "The East Coast Chicagoans", Dapogny is
known both for his skilled work at the keyboard and his extensive knowledge
of early jazz and swing styles including the work of Jelly Roll Morton.

The concert is 7:30pm at the Calvary Luther Church, 9545 Georgia Ave, Silver
Spring.

Fabulous New York & East Coast cornetist Randy Reinhart will join Dapogny on
stage. Filling out the lineup are artists known around the world and who
hail from the DC area: Anita Thomas & Scott Silbert - clarinet and
saxophone; David Sager - trombone, Brooks Tegler - drums; Tommy Cecil -
bass, Craig Gildner - guitar.

Sager, who has made the arrangements to bring the group together, said,
"it's a treat to welcome Jim to our community and share his talent and
on-stage humor with our local audiences."
Dapogny has led bands at major US festivals and in the Midwest. Professor
of Music at the University of Michigan for over 40 years, he has led his
Grammy-nominated Chicago Jazz Band for more than 31 years, touring across
North America and releasing numerous acclaimed records and CD's. Sager
returned to his roots in the DC area after a long stint playing in New
Orleans where jazz had its origins in the early 1900's. Today, he's curator
of the Library of Congress National Jukebox service, which makes rare early
jazz recordings available via the internet.
