Dear Bill:

Elementary my dear Watson. For Clark Gable or film buffs, the site http://dearmrgable.com
contains everything you ever want to know about Clark Gable. I
simply went to that site. It has a search box and I simply searched
for But Not For Me and up popped everything you want to know about the
movie. I'm not sure if the song came up right away or I searched again
on the movie site for Ella. But voila, there it was.

Sounds like a movie sound track to me also. Not as polished as the
Nelson Riddle arrangement and all those violins, she did in January
1959 for Verve. That record included:

Ella Fitzgerald (vocal), Katharine Julyie (harp), Victor Arno, Victor
Bay, Alex Beller, Jacques Gasselin, Benny Gill, Henry Hill, Murray
Kellner, Erno Neufeld, Misha Russell, Paul Shure, Marshall Sosson,
Gerald Vinci (violin), Alvin Dinken, Paul Robyn, Barbara Simons, David
Sterkin (viola), James Arkatov, Elisabeth Greenschpoon, George
Neikrug, Kurt Reher (cello), Paul Smith (piano), Herb Ellis (guitar),
Joe Mondragon (bass), Bill Richmond (drums), Nelson Riddle
(conductor / arranger)

Then again, the day before she cut some more Gershwin tunes with
Riddle as arranger. The orchestra was quite different, except for the
same rhythm section, it was:

Conrad Gozzo, Cappy Lewis, Vito Mangano, Shorty Sherock (trumpet),
Richard Noel, Tommy Pederson, Juan Tizol (trombone), George Roberts
(bass trombone), Benny Carter, Ted Nash (alto sax), Plas Johnson
(tenor sax), Justin Gordon, Joseph Koch (woodwinds).

Cheers,
