Regarding the Sacramento Music Festival, formerly the Sacramento Jazz Festival, formerly the Sacramento Jazz Festival and Jubilee, Formerly the Sacramento Dixieland Jubilee, formerly the Old Sacramento Dixieland jubilee, Kaye Wade Wrote:

How can they expect to "bring back those who haven't been in a couple of year", when the last 5 yrs they've taken away the bands & entertainment they want to see? Duh!

Kaye, because for the last 10 years there has not been enough Trad Jazz folks purchasing tickets to make the Festival break even, let alone make money.
And it is pretty obvious that there was a decline in attendance for maybe another 10 years or so before that. However, the bookkeeping was so bad then that it is hard to tell. Except that the $530K that we had in the bank when Bill Borcher left as exec director of the festival in the 80s, was completely gone by 2003 when Roger Krum left as Festival Director.
I am sure that in your house hold finances, you could not sustain very many years of spending more money than what comes in. Why would you think that a Jazz Festival is any different?
We’ve been through this time and time again here on DJML, The American Rag, MS Rag, etc, so not going to beat a dead horse.
My final words to the folks who disagree with the decisions that Sacramento has made in order to continue to have a festival is,
“Put your money where your mouth is and throw your own festival.”
