the above link should be informative
I remember not having the funds to acquire the complete set
of KEYNOTE available only direct from MOSAIC
AND OF A LOT OF OTHER THINGS .........
LIKE THE COMPLETE COMMODORE RECORDINGS IN HUGE BOXED SETS
MOSAIC records' website should be easily found and their history will tell rather more, how they managed to unearth and issue loads of hitherto not even on any issued disc material so pure by the standards of this list that anyone breathing a hint against its credentials would immmediately be exposed or diagnosed...
and some of us would be as disgusted as was Art Hodes that the owners of the material had left even the stuff initially issued just plain damned unavailable for decades. WHAT RIGHT HAVE THESE PEOPLE TO PREVENT PEOPLE HEARING MY MUSIC. JUST BECAUSE THEY PAID ME -- as Art moaned to a bemused audience. He was particularly incensed that the best-selling record of his career thus far had been sidelined by the company on the grounds of inadequate sales.
The record in question was of duets with the bassist Truck Parham, one track from which amusingly was broadcast on the BBC not long before the gig at which Art voiced his disapproval. Charles Fox played it in respect of Art's birthplace on the (as some might say) Coletrane-ridden JAZZ TODAY, since there were to be concerts of Russian (what some might not call) jazz in London in the nezt week or so.
I believe there is a Keynote discography online somewhere. At one time selections from the catalogue appeared as LPs on a label which as I recall (or am wrong in thinking) also had the rights to the Hodes-Parham session. There were also nice Alun Morgan sleevenotes and a ROSETTA with arguably the best solo ever recorded by Earl Hines as member of a small group.
aah!
