Marc Myers Jazz Wax blog features Art Kane, photographer of "Great Day in
Harlem." Brief description of how it was made and then makes reference to
Jean Bach's video feature where she interviewed as many of the participants
who were available at the time. There's a nice pix and index. Click link
My recollections relate to bassist Milt Hinton. He was a photography buff
and always had his camera. Also wife Mona had hers. In fact, she took the
only video of the event and some of her clips were used on Jean Bach's
production. There are lots of photos of that event in Milt's book Bass
Line. Milt said that before the event when people were gathering, they'd
group themselves according to instrument-pianists, drummers, reeds, horns .
And his photos show that.
The book and the DVD are available for purchase.
