[Dixielandjazz] Music theory question

I know a littlle music theory, and only want to delve into the many aspects
enough to understand a bit more about why things musical occur.  I
presently have a couple of examples I'm curious about.  Rather than
bore 99% of the readers, if anyone would be willing to discuss this
