Bob Smith asked:
> Didn't a contingent from the Coon-Sanders Orchestra also record six sides (1929-ish) for the Broadway label under the name of 'Bill Haid's Cubs'?

Dear Bob,
The Coon-Sanders/Bill Haid connection is that Haid played banjo with the C-S Orchestra from late 1924 to early 1926 and on 8 of its record dates in Chicago during that period.
Also that some of the records he made for Paramount (leased and reissued on Broadway) between July and December 1928 included (according to competent researchers) several sidemen from the Coon-Sanders orchestra - Bob Pope (trumpet) Rex Downing (trombone) Harold or John Thiell (alto) and Elmer Crebs (tuba).
Apart from the Bill Haid And His Cubs recordings he also seems to have been involved in recordings made during this period by the Black Pirates, Manhattan Entertainers/Castle Farm Serenaders and, maybe, the Midnight Serenaders.
A selection of these Haid recordings are available on a Jazz Oracle CD BDW 8039.
Playing it now.
Very kind regards,
Bill.
