I can only suppose that Louis liked "Tears" a lot because of a fondness for a species of melodic tune which without prejudice could be called sentimental, or pretty. Genuine feeling though not a long way from the tumble into sentimentalism. A sort of thing Monk liked to evoke, free of wetness.

The Louis letdown punishment fine tariff might be augmented with savagely high penalties for a certain long since trite trumpeted coda, and an "oh, yeah!" which unlike a tasteful "Tears" manages to combine startling concentrations of staleness, cheapening schmaltz, dripping sentimentality ----  aaaaaah,  dear, dear old Loooooeeee!   Treating him as Uncle Tom
Women have been known to become almost violent when regarded with that level of soppiness!

Long live Weather Bird!
