[Dixielandjazz] Treme, now that it has been mentioned!

Agree, Larry!!! I thought it showed the suffering and loss that all
experienced, and the trial for recovery. It has been a long road and many
still have not recovered.

Carol. I really like you. Enjoyed and encouraged you at the trad jazz camp
a couple of years ago, but I couldn't disagree with you more. There is so
much music happening in NOLA beyond Trad jazz and the show, over the two
years, has explored much of it. I don't like it all but I understand and
appreciate it in the context of the musical personality of the city. Treme
is a challenging show and it's not about music. It's about Katrina and it's
aftermath which includes music, food, crime, loss and re-discovery of
tradition, perseverance and so on . It's nuanced. It's interesting. It's
well written (contrary to the earlier comment from someone--Norm was that
you?). And it's not just about Preservation Hall.

If people go to NOLA today they won't find a lot of trad jazz. Sad to say.
But they'll find some. And along with it they may discover a lot of other
musical treats---much of which is presented on the shows.

Sorry it wasn't simple to follow. But many shows worth watching aren't.....

I watched every episode of Treme on HBO and was very disappointed. It
didn't have nearly enough music, and what they did have was not at all what
I expected.
I wanted to hear some good old trad jazz, but it just didn't happen. The
story jumped around and around, and was hard to follow. The musicians that
got together and played in the airport didn't play nearly long enough.
Well, that's my story and I'm stickin with it. It could have been SO much
better.

Thanks for listening to my review! Carol Dutcher (Clarinet)
