Perhaps some of you aren’t aware that Ray Templin was a semi-regular on Matlock.

Andy in both Matlock and the earlier Andy Griffith Show, liked to have music. In the AGS, there were many scenes of Andy sitting on his front porch playing guitar and singing.

On Matlock, Andy liked to have a night club where he sometimes relaxed, or took clients. The producers rented a nightclub, and changed it into Ray Templin’s Piano Bar. They even built a sign that said Ray Templin’s and filmed it outside on the front of the place.

Every once in a while Andy would go into Ray Templin’s and there was Ray playing piano.

Andy eventually wanted to quit the show and move back to where he grew up in either SC or NC, can’t remember.

In order for Andy to agree to continue with the show, they moved it back to where Andy moved. Thus after that, there was no more Ray Templin’s.

For those of you who might not know, Ray is a fine pianist and drummer. He plays drums on my Great Pacific Jazz Band Louis Armstrong recording.

He also has many of his own recordings. He is currently playing with the Original Wild Cat Band and the St Louis Rivermen.

There is a lot of goodies on Ray’s web site. Take a look:
