[Dixielandjazz] US COPYRIGHT LAW

The effect of this copy write situation is that young musicians are
ignoring the old songs entirely and writing their own material. It was bad
enough that we had to wait 75 years to free up the music to public domain.
This is a real case of shooting oneself in the foot that is guarded over by
the attorneys at BMI and ASCAP, who don't give a DA-- for the music, just
the bucks that feed their own faces. In another 15 years, there will be no
new musicians able or interested enough to carry on the tradition of Tin
Pan alley.
