Homemade CD's are prone to skipping & drops & a short life. Plus, the
computer made stick-on labels don't really look very professional. Nor do
the jewel boxes or notes that one can make look all that good. I think,
personally, that it makes a band look somewhat "homemade" to offer this type
of disk for sale. Having said that, it's better than nothing if one has no
funds available.

Actually, if this is your plan, then the cost of doing it correctly through
the composer's society is much less than doing a commercial CD. Just check
the box for "promotional material" on the form.

Actually, we are talking about very little money doing it properly. I go to
the most expensive plant there is in Spain as I have worked with them for
over 30 yrs on many projects and I know the extra expense is worth it. Even
with the composer's fees & fabrication costs, the overall cost of each CD is
very little, leaving quite a nice margin for profit.
