Of course I can't speak for anywhere else, and I fully agree with what you
are saying, but not on every occasion. In the US, we have plenty of the
older dancers who make a point to dance, wearing their matching duds,
including zoot suits, spats, watch fobs and flapper dresses.... it's a lot
of fun... they actually travel from Jazz Fest to Jazz fest for their own
agenda. I love it!! in regard to dancing and knowing where the stops
are, it's still the same beat, and whether or not you stop, sing, scat or
move during that tacit is up to you...simply stay on the beat....just like
playing jazz, some plow right through with gusto and some take liberties...
as long as it comes together, it doesn't matter. I do agree that some of
the dancers think they are part of the show...that's why we always put the
dance floor to the side or in the back of the room... it helps keeps the
attention on the stage, unless someone WANTS to watch the dancers. Thank
you for the comment, I hadn 't thought about anywhere else but what I have
seen.
Best,
Judi k
