Lena Prima Stars in New Orleans (Frank Grace)
Last year Lena Prima returned to New Orleans to perform at the French Quarter Festival and to be part of the ceremony inducting her father Louie Prima into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame. Tonight (Jan. 6) she returns for a three-month engagement at the Monteleone Hotel as the featured attraction at the newly renovated Carousel Bar. For the past several years Lena, who is a native daughter of New Orleans, has been featured at Las Vegas shows and other major events throughout the country. Although she pays tribute to her father's music in her show, she is an accomplished jazz singer who also is a songwriter. Her song, "Silly In The Middle" was nominated as the Best Jazz Song of 2010 by the Hollywood Music In Media Awards. The song is on her CD "Since The Storm" which was dedicated to the survivors of hurricane Katrina. As critic Jonathan Widran noted about a Hollywood appearance by Lena: "Even if Lena did not have a famous last name, there's no doubt her strong jazz vocal chops could make her a star...This was a thoroughly enjoyable evening created by an artist who brilliantly combines subtle intimaces with crowd pleasing exciting delights."
