We often hear a lot of opinions about jazz audiences, who they are,
what they like, etc., etc. However there are precious few studies to
back up the opinions.
One USA study has a 58 page section devoted to who the audience is
and what they like. It is at:
http://www.jazzartsgroup.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/JAI-Ticket-Buyer-Segmentation-Report_FINAL.pdf
Or see a 43 page section about regenerating the audience from a study
in Ohio, at:
http://www.jazzartsgroup.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/JAI-Prospect-Segmentation-Report_FINAL.pdf
The home page for the study is at:
http://www.jazzartsgroup.org/jai/
Surf the right side of the page if interested for info, like on the
below section:
http://www.jazzartsgroup.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/JAI_FinalKeyFindings_2011_08.pdf
Note that OKOM is not even on their radar screen, except for
Preservation Hall Band as an artist preference (page 14 on the above
link) and they rank below Charlie Parker, Pat Metheny, Stan Getz,
Keith Jarrett, etc.
Lots of info to wade through but if you are a marketing person, you'll
appreciate it.
Cheers,
