Sacramento Traditional Jazz Society Foundation
Presents Inaugural Jazz Education Award

The STJS Foundation is a financial trust that provides funding for programs and activities
that promote and preserve traditional jazz.

Over the past couple of decades, STJSF has funded music lesson awards, the annual
STJS Trad Jazz Camp in Sly Park, jazz camp scholarships, Sacramento Trad Jazz Youth
Band Festival (TJYBF) and local school district jazz programs.

Last year, the Foundation expanded efforts to promote traditional jazz by starting
a program to recognize individuals in the Sacramento region who have a long and consistent
history of providing extraordinary support and contributions for jazz education.

Out of the many people deserving such recognition, the STJS Jazz Education Committee
was unanimous in its selection of Davis music educator
Celia Cottle to receive the inaugural Jazz Education Award.

STJSF president Tom Dithridge, presented the bronze award plaque and a $500 check
to the very shocked and speechless recipient on the Music Recital Hall stage in Capistrano
Hall before a full house during the Awards Ceremony of the TJYBF on February 11th.

Cottle received enthusiastic cheers of "oYeah, Celia!" and standing ovations,
first from her current and former students and parents, and then from the entire
audience.

"There are three things I like about being on an Italian cruise ship
First their cuisine is unsurpassed.
Second their service is superb.
And then, in time of emergency, there is none of this nonsense about women and children first."
--Winston Churchill.
