[Dixielandjazz] George Smith R.I.P.

I just received a call from Jean Smith to the effect that George Smith, who had been in failing health for some time, passed away last night (2-17-12).  There will be some kind of memorial in the San Francisco Bay Area in the future.

George was a good friend of traditional jazz and its players from many years and was at one time President of the South Bay Traditional Jazz Society, a position he filled so well.  His passing leaves another gap in the jazz community.
