Midsummer Night Swing Unveils Its Lineup
By JAMES C. MCKINLEY JR.
The lineup for the Midsummer Night Swing series of concerts this year
includes a European boogie-woogie combo with Charlie Watts on drums
and a concert by masters of forró music from northeastern Brazil, some
of whom have rarely appeared outside their homeland, Lincoln Center
announced on Tuesday.
Now in its 24th year, the dance concerts will be held from June 26 to

dance lessons are available for those in need of help with the steps.
The series begins with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra doing a tribute to

jitterbug.
Mr. Watts, of the Rolling Stones, will appear on June 28 with A,B,C &
D of Boogie Woogie, a quartet led by the German piano player Alex
Zwingenberger. The show will be the first time the combo has played in
the United States.
In another United States debut, the Brazilian forró musicians Maciel
Melo,Biliu de Campina and Walmir Silva are scheduled to take the stage
on July 13 for an evening of accordion-driven folk music. They will be
backed up by another forró outfit, Quarteto Olinda.

group, on June 27; Meschiya Lake & Dem Little Big Horns, a New Orleans
swing band, on June 29; Orquesta Broadway, the New York salsa and
charanga group, on June 30; Crytzer’s Blue Rhythm Band on July 2;

single concert, $80 for a six-night pass and $160 for the full season.
