Dear Bill:
When I play a blues, like say Tin Roof, in my improv, I will often go
from the root to the 6th, and then to a flatted 5th. For the sound,
just sing or whistle the 3 notes in the melody of "Bali Hai"after the
opening measures, from South Pacific and there they are. Was Oscar
Hammerstein listening to Monk, or Monk to Hammerstein? Or were they
both listening to Oriental music?

Listen where Bloody Mary sings "Any Night Any Day' at 3 Min 50
seconds, etc.
