I was introduced to Wilbur de Paris ages ago - the USIS library in
Tel-Aviv had "Wilbur de Paris at Symphony Hall" (later reissued by
European MPS as part of its "That's Jazz" series. Wilbur de Paris
introduced me to Doc Cheatham, who played in theband in 1958. My
favourite de Paris record has always been "Plays Cole Porter," which
was put down by a "Jazz Journal" reviewer because of Lee Blair's
(excellent, by the way) banjo. I ws not convinced, and my letter of
protest was published some time later (in those days, the Hournal
arrived here with a two-three month delay).
