[Dixielandjazz] Jazz at Lincoln Center and the Prohibition

My listening to JALC was cut short by an intrusive concert band
rehearsal.

The first half-hour was disturbing because I heard what I think was,
at times, a parody of early jazz.

I felt the early jazz polyphonic sensitivity, that better trad bands
today can still accomplish, was overdone and caricatured.

(This happened in the introductory portion of Benny Goodman's 1938
Carnegie Hall concert, as well.)

I am not sure why it was necessary to put early music down, or
modernize it. Did the musicians not understand it, or just need to
assert their modern credentials?

The Mooche was sublime, but it has been transcribed so may times, it
should be readily readable and resemble Duke's idea.

Wish I had heard it all.....
