[Dixielandjazz] Bob Roman's Question - Red Nichols

If I'm not mistaken, someone commented earlier that the sound track was
recorded and dubbed to film. I am pretty sure for early Vitaphones at
least, the sound track was recorded as the film was shot. Often you can
pick out where they hid the microphones and you can detect when someone was
"off mic". Don't forget, early Vitophones were supplied as a sound disk
that synced with the film via a special turntable and projector set up.

Nice clip Bob. I think it confirms the urban legend that Red Nichols
taught Milli Vanilli how to lip synch.

What I really loved about that clip is that (I think) the clarinetist
is Pee Wee Russell and the trombonist is Herb Taylor, both of whom
sound wonderful. Regarding Pee Wee, this is how he sounded before he
started experimenting. <grin>
