I think when Haggart & Crosby wrote the tune, (1837 or so) there was  
indeed a South Rampart Street.

But as Bill Haesler says, circa 1900-1915 there might have been only  
Rampart Street. That may explain the tune title: "I've Got The Blues  
For Rampart Street" which tune Bill H can give us the correct publish  
date. All I know is that Ida Cox sang it circa1923.

Played it as a sideman in a mouldy fig band a month ago.

Historians will know that The Eagle Saloon & Odd Fellows/Masonic  
ballroom building on Rampart (or 401 South Rampart today) is where  
Bolden, Keppard, Petite and Armstrong are reputed to have played. That  
is the same block where Karnofsky had a tailor shop. (Yes, the family  
who befriended young louis Armstrong)
