Below is a report on the 2011 Dresden International Dixieland Festival.
Notice in particular the bit about the young audience. And try to ignore
the less than perfect English.
Cheers

     This was the 41st Festival

„Every year in may Dresden is in Dixieland fever. The International
Dixieland Festival and the Music Festivals are two outstanding annual
musical highlights, other cities envy us for. I want to thank the festival
administration and the 250 volunteers for their commitment for our Dresden,
and all of that without public funding.“, said the current mayor Dirk
Hilbert at the opening ceremony of the 41st International Dixieland
Festival.

43 bands and solo artists with more then 300 musicians from 14 countries of
3 continents performed at this years festival and were observed by almost
500 000 visitors on 61 stages at 15 locations. In over 140 performances
bands and solo artists offered 250h of Jazz, Swing and Boogie Woogie, 90h of
which were free of charge for the audience.

Three innovations at the 41. Festival were real crowd pullers. The first
„Dixie ABC“ for Children under the age of 8 in the „Rundkino“ Cinema and the
„Big Band Party“ in „Alter Schlachthof“ were completely sold out. The new
location in the domed hall of the main station became a surprisingly huge
success even for the festival administration due to the courtesy of the
„Deutsche Bahn AG“ offering a „Dixie-Breakfast“.

With their musical performance two eagerly anticipated bands impressed the
audience, showing off high quality and fun to play. This were on the one
hand „The Isradixie Band“, who traveled here from Israel just for the Dixie
Festival and enlisted themselves and their country as number 45 in the
history of the IDE. The other band was the „USAF Wings of Dixie“, the
Dixieland formation of the American Air Force in Germany. At their first
guest performance in Dresden they showed excellent play and not anticipated
stage shows.

Festival director Joachim Schlese expressed in his summary of the 41th
festival : „The Old Time Jazz sounds old judging by its name, but here in
Dresden its a young festival. We have the youngest festival audience of the
Old Time Jazz in Europe!“

The 42nd International Dixieland Festival will be from May 13th to 20th
2012.
