As the technology has moved along, learning more about how your computer
operates and taking charge of its optimization has increasingly became the
responsibility of the owner.

There is a bewildering number of Windows optimizers out there and some of
them purport to advise you that they have detected a virus on your computer
and offer to clean it up for a fee...after they have caused the infection.
It therefore behooves one to research anything you add to your computer to
correct problems and speed up performance. I have had success with
Avanquest's SystemSuite and with ParetoLogic's PC Health Advisor. I
subscribed to both and both have been periodically used to clean up cookies
(that eventually collect and choke the computer's performance,) and optimize
startup and disable programs that automatically launch when you start the
computer (these programs can be actuated when you actually want to use
them) SystemSuite also has a virus firewall to prevent malicious programs
from starting, but quarantines them instead..

Blue screens are typically caused by conflicts between resources in the
computer when directed to operate with first priority at the same time.
These programs should find out what is happening.

You can also download a free Windows utility called Process Explorer from
Microsoft and run it anytime to see what programs are running and how much
of the CPU resources they are using.
