Hello,
DVD makes it mainly visual again.
But the interesting CD attached to the book "Take Off" tells a
different story. There it's just audio, and most of it is very good.
Lots of Sweethearts of Rhythm, which could outswing most bands, except
perhaps for the best known ones. But there are recordings by lots of
bands that are far from the level of Basie, Goodman, the Duke, Shaw or
Tommy Dorsey. And those do not sound any better than the all-girl
bands I know (I assume there were more).
